Uk.local.yorkshire was hit by a lot of trolls naming themselves * John during the June and July 2001. They masterminded their "plot" using the Yahoo! group "uklocaltrolls"
Given the huge disruption uk.local.yorkshire suffered I thought it was about time the light came on those who caused the problems. Hence I have archived all of the relevant bits of the site. The ISPs of all the contributors have been complained to as well. Feel free to add your voice.
On Friday 13th July, I published the details of the archive at various choice points on the Web. The result has been that the Yahoo! group has now been closed (at ~1am BST on Saturday 14th July), which is one in the teeth for the Trolls.
Tbe archive is a bit rough and ready, a straight downloading, lots of the internal links won't work. But it is still possible to get about.
Or, alternatively, you could go to my
The last two messages of the group (265 and 266) were archived actually after the end of the Yahoo! group. To preserve the anonymity of the archiver (though we all know who it really was :-) certain details in the headers of these two mails relating directly to the e-mail system of the archiver have been deleted.
I've also archived the profiles of all the users, click on the links to get to them:
Caruthers was chucked out of ULT shortly before Yahoo! shut it down, as it is apparent from this archive that he was responsible for creating it. To attempt to prove that he is genuinely a troll, he posted in various places (notably uk.local.yorkshire, and uk.net.news.management) that he was going to put the McKraken bot on his briefcase of his profile, which is avaliable here.
Since then he has removed the Bot. Happily I have an archive of it. It's not available directly for download from this site, in case it gets downloaded and used for trolling. However, if you aren't a troll, e-mail me here, convince me you aren't a troll and I will give you the URL to download it from.
