You folks have cleared up a burnng question for me: the purpose of this
group? Quite simple. I now know there are two.

1)To keep the Middle and Educated Classes (the meddling classes) out of
Jail Visiting Committees, Probation Bridge Head Committees, Parent
Teacher Associations, School Boards, Health Trust Boards, University
Staff Drinking Bothies, Professional Ladies Watch Committees, Moral
Welfare Missions to the Working Classes, Social Work Support Committees,
New Labour Target Groups, Poacher Eradication Committees and off all
street corners.     2)To provide a platform for frustrated satirists,
wise guys, commediens drivel merchants and unemployable christmas
cracker joke writers. People very skilled in producing nothing worth
while and certainly nothing of note. 

As this group shows objective 2 on the other hand has succeeded beyond
anyones wildest dreams.

Unfortunately objective 1 has been only partially achieved. 

I don't know what it is like where you live. My friends both back in my
home village and in the town where I now live and work complain bitterly
about being roasted to buggery by one or all of the above groups in
category one. (To be fair to this news group there are fewer category
two plooterers about, but still too many.) Just cannot get any peace to
go about their affairs unmolested. In fact the chappie who delivers my
fresh venison, pheasant and salmon of a night talks about nothing else.
He informed me only last night that my whiskey delivery would be late
this week because of the state his supplier was in. She is about
demented with them, has to bury her equipment after every run.
