Suggestion:
Its not a troll =96 it's an experiment to see how other users react to=20
something they haven't seen on usenet before .
10 users on the same newsgroup =96 with each one having a similar=20
username and email address .
Super John =96 superjohn20001@h...
Tricky John =96 trickyjohn20001@h...
Big John =96 bigjohn20001@h...
Etc
(ps: I've grabbed the name Super John)
As this wouldn't be a troll - the only way to conduct the experiment=20
would be playing the part of a normal usenet user =96 who doesn't=20
swear =96 or wind anybody up .
IMHO , If users see that its just troll stuff that gets posted =96 then=20
they will just dismiss it as a troll & just ignore all the johns .
The experiment , Would be to see how long & how many people would=20
keep asking about all the johns trying to get an explanation for it &=20
just how long it would take for somebody to get pissed off with it .
[look at it as a trial run]
Predicted events after a few days:
Some users will keep asking "why all the johns?" ,,, No explanations=20
or hints given =96 reply as normal to other posts .
1 week later , Some users will have changed their name to ******=20
John , Let them do this without giving them any hassle .
After 1 week as `johns' , And after reactions-n-stuff =96 perhaps move=20
onto a different newsgroup & change tactics slightly .
Perhaps changing newsgroups once a week =96 would earn us a nickname=20
like "the roaming johns" .
Even if the experiment fails , Theres a fair chance we might start a=20
new usenet trend =96 with punters jumping on the bandwagon and getting=20
a *****john20001@h... address
What newsgroup ???
One that doesn't have hundreds of posts every day .
A newsgroup with 60-90 posts each day is ideal .
To have maximum effect , The johns should add a total of about 20-40=20
posts a day =96 to become the dominating voice .
With this =96 we can control what direction a thread takes .
BUT , As you well know =96 this will only work if we *all* appear to be=20
just normal users =96 and not trolls .
And to make life easy for ourselves , I suggest we find a obscure=20
newsgroup that ever gets used & and start using it for ourselves .
This way we could discuss a thread (on a different newsgroup) between=20
ourselves =96 before replying to it .
And if we want to keep it private =96 no `johns' user/email names used=20
when posting to it .
Microplanet gravity v2.5 is freeware , And it has a option to setup a=20
different username and email address for each newsgroup you are=20
subscribed to .
The gravity website hasn't been udated yet and is still pointing to=20
the old pay v2.3 version ,,, grab the ftp info and change the=20
filename from "grav23.exe" to "grav25.exe" to download the freeware=20
version .
